Five Rules of Virtual Interviewing

Five Rules of Virtual Interviewing

In order to make sure you are getting the most out of virtual interviews (which we think are actually a really good first stage in any process) you should follow the rules below:

  1. Give yourself and the interviewee enough time to prepare and organise a number of set questions that you are going to ask all interviewees.
  2. Come up with a standardised scoring system like you would in any interview process. This will allow you to score candidates objectively and on measured merits.
  3. Choose a quiet location without distractions to conduct the interview. Although obvious if you are in a shared location let everyone know you are interviewing so you are not disturbed.
  4.  Test your connection several times and if in doubt test with a colleague. This will save time later and will also allow you to create the right first impression with your candidate.
  5. Send confirmation to the candidate confirming the format, time and software to be used. This should be done as soon as you can.
